HONORS ORGANIZATION ANNOUNCEMENTS

1.	EVENT: Club SHO: 80s Style (NEW POSTING):
Do you love the 80s? Is it your desire to bust out some bright colored pants and an off the shoulder sweater and dance the night away to the B52s? Then you are in luck! Come out to Club SHO: 80s Style this Wednesday, February 18 at 8:00 pm in Hume Commons. In honor of IRHA's Residence Hall Week, there will be refreshments, strobe lights, excellent fashion and sweet tunes.

2.	EVENT: Honors On Thursday: Do Work! (NEW POSTING):
Need help finding a cool summer job? Come and get tips from the experts! This event will have a panel of students with great internship experiences, and an info session on how to search for summer jobs. This presentation is taking place on Thursday, February 19 at 6:00pm in Graham Gallery. Refreshments will be served!





ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENTS AND OPPORTUNITIES

3.	ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENT: Career Options for Language & Cultural Studies, Classics, Philosophy, and Religion Majors (NEW POSTING):
If you are in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, attend CLAS Workshops to explore your career options and get answers to major-specific and general career questions. Each workshop will examine the career paths of successful professionals in your major, while addressing the types of things employers look for in their candidates and activities that will help you become more marketable.

The next workshop is taking place on Thursday, February 19 from 3:00-4:00pm in the Career Resource Center classroom (1st floor Reitz Union). The topic is: Career Options for Language & Cultural Studies, Classics, Philosophy, and Religion Majors.

4.	ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENT: Workshop for Exploratory Majors (NEW POSTING)::
The next workshop for exploratory majors is taking place on Tuesday, February 17 from 3:00-4:00pm in 200 Farrior Hall (Academic Advising Center). This workshop topic is: Major Jeopardy: Play the Major Game.

5.	RESEARCH: McNair Scholars Program:
The University of Florida McNair Scholars Program is currently accepting applications. The McNair Scholars Program exists to support undergraduate college students from low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented backgrounds in their progress toward a Ph.D. As a result of their participation in the McNair program, participants will have the opportunity to:

*	Conduct their own research with a faculty mentor.
*	Receive a $2,900 research stipend.
*	Get assistance with the graduate application and financial aid processes.
*	Present and publish their research.
*	Travel to national research and professional conferences.

6.	LEADERSHIP: Peer Mentors for OASIS:
Serving as a Peer Mentor for incoming freshman is a great opportunity to build lasting relationships and gain a unique leadership experience! To better serve underrepresented and/or first generation college students, we are proud to introduce new facets of the program, including a more personal selection process.  

An information session is taking place on Wednesday, February 18 in Little 101 at 5:45pm. Interested students can learn about the interview process and the position.

7.	LEADERSHIP: Gators of Tomorrow:
Are you a top freshman at the University of Florida?  Are you looking to change the who, what, where, and how of tomorrow?

Omicron Delta Kappa has organized a one of a kind event, Gators of Tomorrow, an Outstanding Freshman Recognition program that will take place on March 22, to recognize the top 25 freshmen at the University of Florida for their accomplishments both on campus and in the community.

The event will include a notable keynote speaker, breakout workshops, and an evening banquet, where the top two freshmen out of the 25 will be recognized with individual scholarships and awards.

EVENTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

8.	STUDENT ORG ANNOUNCEMENT: Neuroscience Club (NEW POSTING, TODAY):
Come free your mind and learn how it works with the Neuroscience Club. We are having a meeting on Tuesday, February 17. It's held at the same time and same place as last semester: 7:20pm in room NPB1002 of the New Physics Building. Dr. Keith White will be coming to lead a discussion on his research in neuroimaging and rehabilitation of strokes and movement disorders. There will be snacks! And don't forget to buy and pick up your awesome shirts!  

9.	EVENT: Movie- The Greatest Silence: Rape in the Congo (NEW POSTING):
"The Greatest Silence: Rape in the Congo" is a movie about the war tactic of rape used in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.  Women who have been raped are, in many cases, disowned by their families and communities. 
 
Human Rights Awareness on Campus will be showing "Rape in the Congo" on Thursday, February 19 at 7:00pm in MAT 16.

10.	EVENT: Animal Rights Film Festival:
Have you ever wondered about your relationship with non-human animals? Join Animal Activists of Alachua at our annual animal rights film festival! Everyone is welcome! Screenings begin at 8:00pm in the Reitz Union.

February 26, room 284: "Eating Mercifully"- followed by a discussion on religion and animal rights.

11.	EVENT: National Condom Week (TODAY):
This year, National Condom Week is February 14 through 21. Come out and join Vox: Voices for Planned Parenthood in promoting safe sex. Our events for the week are as follows:

Tuesday, February 17: We will have another table set up at the Reitz Union from 10:40am to 2:00pm. Again we will be offering condoms, candy, and information.

Thursday, February 19: We will be celebrating our Spring Semester Condom Night. Meet at 10:30pm in the Flint Hall parking lot to head downtown and promote safe sex at the local clubs. Get on downtown and have a good time.

Show that you really care. Spread love not infection, use protection!

12.	EVENT: Off Campus Life Lunch Series - Financial Investing (TODAY):
Even though we are in hard economic times, there are safe ways you can start investing money and planning for your future. On Tuesday, February 17, there will be a lunch about Financial Investing that will cover topics that include making a budget, avoiding debt, and details about different areas of investing. Students will be able to ask questions at the end of the program. The event starts at 11:45am in Room 285 of the Reitz Union. Food will be provided. This event is co-sponsored by the Office of Off Campus Life and Multicultural and Diversity Affairs.

13.	EVENT: Health Panel (TODAY):
Thinking about a career in the health care field?  

Health Educated Asian Leaders is hosting a Health Panel. There will be representatives from the medical, dental, pharmacy, veterinary, and physical therapy fields. The speakers range from college administrators, to private practice clinicians, residents, and even researchers. Panelists will speak about their experiences and will be available to answer your questions.

The event is free to any UF student and will be held at the Graham Gallery and the Graham Rec Room on Tuesday, February 17 at 6:00pm.
