Dear Graduate Coordinators and Staff,
The UF Center for African Studies is pleased to remind you of the prestigious FLAS (Foreign Language and Area Studies) fellowships for graduate students interested in Africa. These fellowships are made possible thanks to the US Department of Education Title VI grant to our Center, and are an important part of our efforts to recruit and support top students to work on African topics at UF. Fellowships are available for AY 2009-10, as well as for intensive study of an African language in summer 2009.
Please keep these fellowships in mind as you work to recruit new students to UF for Fall 2009 and as you advise students already in your program. Please encourage them to apply. Applications for both the AY2009-10 and the Summer 09 fellowships must be received by Monday 16 February. For more information on the FLAS program and application guidelines/procedures, see http://web.africa.ufl.edu/fellowships.html
If you have any advising questions regarding the application procedures, particularly for incoming students, please feel free to contact us. CAS Associate Director Todd Leedy, <[log in to unmask]> would be happy to answer questions about application procedures, eligibility, and requirements.
