On Friday, March 6th at 3:00 pm, Dr. Penelope Canan from the Sociology Department at the University of Central Florida will visit and give a talk on "Urban Form and Function in the Global Carbon-Climate-Human Cycle." The talk will be in 219 Dauer Hall.

Dr. Canan is the recipient of the Stratospheric Ozone Protection Best-of-the-Best Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and a member of the Technology and Economic Assessment Panel, which advises on changes to the Montreal Protocol. Between 2004 and 2006, she served as Executive Director of the Global Carbon Project, hosted by Japan's National Institute for Environmental Studies. In 2007, she received the "Distinguished Career" award from the American Sociological Association's Section on Environment and Technology.

In addition to her 20 years of research and service on climate change, Dr. Canan has recently helped to start a UCF chapter of Focus the Nation, a group that concentrates on making people aware of global warming and climate change.

We are fortunate to have Dr. Canan speaking to us next Friday. Her work on global climate change is among the best-of-the best in the world. Please join us at 3:00 pm on March 6th. The talk is sponsored by the Department of Sociology and Criminology & Law.
