POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER -GLOBAL EVALUATION OF COMPLEX SPATIALLY DISTRIBUTED ECOLOGICAL AND HYDROLOGICAL MODELS 

LOCATION: University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida APPLICATION DEADLINE: Open Until Filled POSITION START DATE: Available Immediately (funding available for 3-years)
SALARY: Competitive with candidate qualifications (full benefits)

DESCRIPTION: We are seeking an exceptional candidate to work on global sensitivity and uncertainty analysis of complex spatially-distributed ecological and hydrological models. The work will be part of a federally-funded project on the use of multi-scale models, data and scenario projections to reduce risk of climate change effects and human disturbances on the distribution of nesting indicator bird species on Florida military installations. Funding is available for 3 years. The candidate must demonstrate excellent analytical and computer skills (i.e. proficiency in programming in C/Fortran or other high level languages, Matlab/Mathematica, and unix scripting language for data analysis), and a good ability to communicate. The candidate will be hosted in the recently renovated Agricultural and Biological Engineering Building, will have access to state-of-the art facilities including the UF High Performance Computing Center (http://hpc.ufl.edu), and be part of an active interdisciplinary academic community through the UF Water Institute (http://waterinstitute.ufl.edu).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS : A Ph.D. in agricultural, biological, civil, environmental, or closely related engineering field is required. Candidates must be able to work effectively in a team environment and must be able to lead and publish high quality research. Candidates should have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication. Preference will be given to candidates with a record of publishing peer-reviewed journal articles. BACKGROUND INFORMATION : The Agricultural and Biological Engineering Department is a unit in the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) (http://ifas.ufl.edu) and College of Engineering (http://www.eng.ufl.edu) at the University of Florida and has diverse teaching, research and extension education programs with 31 faculty members located on the Gainesville campus, and 6 faculty located across the state at research and education centers (see website http://www.abe.ufl.edu). The University of Florida is a Land-Grant institution with an enrollment in excess of 46,000 students on the Gainesville campus and a member of the Association of American Universities.
