We are actually starting workshops here using our math lab and writing center staff for the PRAXIS. We are in the planning stages, but we have such qualified tutors and professional staff, that we are keeping things in house. We are looking at requiring a prep workbook to do practice tests and getting the students involved in both large group sessions to perform big picture preparation and tasks and then more individualized work with, for example, writing center consultants to discuss problems with responses to a practice prompt for the writing portion of the test. If anyone has any suggestions on getting started, we would be happy to hear about them.

Subject: Board Prep
Hello colleagues. As a Learning Specialist at a small University, I am
seeing an increasing number of students who are enrolled in
pre-professional programs preparing for Board Exams. You name it -
certification, licensure, grad school, med school, pharmacy, etc. -
PRAXIS, LSAT, MCAT, NCLEX, COMLEX, PCAT, GRE, CPT, ATC, DPT, etc. We
offer many health sciences, life sciences, medical, and liberal arts
majors. I know programs like Kaplan are effective (and expensive and
time-intensive). HERE are my questions:
1. Does anyone offer a Test Prep kind of course on their college
campus taught by college faculty?
2. Does anyone require such a course for certain majors?
3. Does anyone contract with an outside service group like Kaplan to
offer a Test Prep course to be taught on their campus?
Any ideas or suggestions you may have will be appreciated. Thank you.
