Hello,
I wanted to let all you guys know there is a group on campus exclusively
devoted to biodiesel research and production.
UF biodiesel operates out of the department of Agricultural and Biological
Engineering under Dr. Pratap Pullammanappallil. We have a support lab in
Frazier Rogers hall and are currently negotiating with the UF Office of
Sustainability to build a new production plant on the UF main campus.
For the past year, UF biodiesel has been collecting used cooking oil from
on-campus locations such as Broward and Gator Dining, Moe's, Chili's, and
the Reitz Union food court and converting it to biodiesel. We sell our fuel
to UF Physical Plant, whose vehicles run on a 20% blend of the biodiesel we
make ourselves.
Here is a video report on our former production site on SW 23rd Terrace,
across from the solar energy park:

As I mentioned, we are currently working to expand our full-scale production
with a new facility if resources permit. While full-scale production at the
old facility is currently postponed, our lab work in Frazier Rogers Hall is
in full swing and our team is actively designing our new production
facility. We are visiting commercial facilities as far away as North
Carolina to learn more about commercial biodiesel production.
We are always looking for more hands to help us with the project. We seek
motivated students from all majors with a passion for renewable energy and
biodiesel.
For more information about our project and to find out how to get involved,
please feel free to contact me at [log in to unmask] For other
questions you may also contact Eric Layton, our project manager, at

On behalf of all of us at UF Biodiesel, thank you for your interest in a
green and sustainable future.
Sincerely,
Aaron Wertz

Subject: Biodiesel from waste vegetable oil
Hi BESTers,
Check out this video about using waste vegetable oil for
biodiesel. It was a project conducted by an intern during the
2008 Bioenergy Summer School.
