Subject: RE: seeking PhD program
Kathryn,
I have one class left before my dissertation for an Ed.D. in teaching and learning from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. My master's is in curriculum and supervision from Western Michigan. I have really enjoyed the perspective of the Ed.D. and at this stage of my career, I think it is a better fit for me than the Ph.D. would have been. This LU doctorate is a blended program--it requires 9 hours in residence that can be completed in three 1-week-long Intensives at various points in the program: I plan to go to VA to take my final one in June. The rest of the coursework is online, supported by Blackboard. In March, it was ranked as the 3rd best distance learning program in the US, behind the University of Northern Iowa and another I can't recall--University of Massachusetts, maybe? There are currently more than 30,000 distance learners from around the world as well as more than 10,000 students in residence at LU. I've had classmates coast-to-coast, in Germany, the Netherlands, and on secret assignment in the military somewhere in Asia. :-) It's fully accredited, and since the university has a law school, undergrad and graduate programs in nursing, and a seminary, the library resources are extensive. There are excellent research library links for distance learners, access to hundreds of online journals, and I have found my courses to be very rigorous and challenging, academically. The foundational worldview of LU is evangelical Christian, and is integrated into the curriculum, so that should be kept in mind if you consider it. I looked at every program I could find at the time I started, and am extremely pleased that I chose this one--it has been a very good fit. Check it out at www.liberty.edu.

Subject: seeking PhD program
I am looking for a PhD program in either Educational Psychology, Curriculum & Instruction, or something related. I would like to check out some distance education programs. Can anyone point me toward some good programs?
Thanks,
