Good morning BESTers,
Feedstocks for biogas are all around us. San Francisco is
beginning a new program to produce energy from dog waste through
anaerobic digestion. The feces will be mixed with food waste to
balance the feedstock and produce more energy. Pet feces
comprises 3.8% of San Francisco's landfilled waste and accounts
for 10 million tons nationally. The process also eliminates
pathogens in the waste, a problem that is gaining increasing
attention with current methods. With innovative programs such as
this, there is huge potential for biogas in our sustainable energy
future.
