Yorkshire £20m AD plant gets the go-ahead
Recycling & Waste World, 22 Jul 2009
"North Yorkshire County Council has granted planning permission for a
£20 million anaerobic digestion (AD) plant on the site of a former acid
plant in Selby that will create 120 new jobs for the town.
The Selby Renewable Energy Park will use anaerobic digestion technology
and the plant is expected to generate 8MW of energy.
It is anticipated to have the capacity to treat 165,000 tonnes of food
waste per year and to generate enough clean, renewable energy to power
10,800 homes for a year.
Plans include the build of a pre-treatment hall that will enable the
facility to handle packaged food waste from supermarkets, food
processors, local authorities and caterers.
The plant, which will occupy eight acres of a former Tate & Lyle Citric
Acid Plant in the south of the town, already includes an anaerobic
digester on the site, which is currently being updated. The proposal is
to build two new anaerobic digesters.
“The proposed Selby Renewable Energy Park will contribute to regional
emissions reduction targets by generating renewable energy for export to
the Grid, while diverting large quantities of waste from landfill.”"
