Western Kentucky University, Academic Advising and Retention Center
(AARC), is seeking applicants for an *Assistant Director of Supplemental
Education*. This position supports the retention and supplemental
education policies and initiatives of the Academic Advising and
Retention Center and the University. This position works with a variety
of students, faculty, staff, and Academic and Student Affairs
departments to provide a variety of supplemental learning opportunities
so as to promote higher retention rates and support/assist academically
underprepared students, support/assist all students seeking supplemental
education, and further the AARC and University Quality Enhancement Plan
Initiatives.
*Responsibilities:*
*The following duties are customary for this position but are not to be
construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned
based on managerial discretion and institutional needs.*
*Development of Programs*:
· Develops a cohesive 3 year strategic plan for the delivery of
supplemental education.
· Conducts literature searches, best practice reviews, reviews of other
higher education institutions (particularly Benchmark Institutions), and
attends regional and national conferences on supplemental education as a
means of acquiring data to inform the AARC strategies for enhancing
supplemental learning programs and program practices.
· Works with the University, AARC, academic departments, faculty
advisors, and professional advisors to implement supplemental programs
via a supportive University-wide network.
· Focuses on improving services provided by The Learning Centers (TLC)
and AARC

*Coordination and Implementation*:
· Coordinates the implementation of the supplemental education strategic
plan.
· Collaborates with other offices and departments to implement
supplemental education programs, particularly for students who are
academically underprepared.
· Coordinates hiring and the transmittal of training programs for new
student employees of TLC Proper and its two satellite locations--
including Graduate Assistants, Peer Tutors, Peer Assisted Study Sessions
Leaders (PASS), Front Desk Monitors, and Computer Lab
Monitors--informing them of TLC policies and procedures and instructing
them in position specific duties.
· Coordinates the maintenance of College Reading and Learning
Association Tutor Program Certification; develops new training methods
to achieve additional levels of certification.
· Provides training and support programs that introduce, refine, and
further tutoring practices within TLC; offers the same training
University-wide for other supplemental education programs in other
departments.
· Coordinates the day-to-day operation of TLC’s study environment and
programming in TLC Proper and its residence hall satellite locations.
· Coordinates the PASS Program and the Academic Advantage Series:
Workshops for Success which require partnerships with faculty and
special programs University-wide.
· Serves as a liaison between AARC and all academic units for
supplemental education.
· Coordinates the implementation and maintenance of, and training for,
TutorTrac Scheduling software for all participating supplemental
education centers University-wide.
· Maintains and refines Online Tutoring Sessions program.
· Coordinates tutor outreach sessions and informational sessions that
advertise TLC services.
· Creates effective advertisements to promote TLC and AARC programs via
radio, newspaper, and other media outlets.
· Assists with parent and student orientation information sessions.
· Assists with academic advising during high volume periods.
· Generates and participates in discussions on improving supplemental
education through the use of technology.

*Assessment/Evaluation:*
· Works with WKU research staff to assess supplemental education program
efficacy.
· Works with faculty, FaCET, and staff to determine identifiers to be
used in effective evaluation.
· Prepares weekly, semester, and annual reports on supplemental
education programs. (Specifically to include the impact programs on
student success).
· Implements and revises, as necessary, consistent assessment methods
and practices for evaluation.
· Reviews internal processes campus-wide and in AARC to determine
effectiveness of supplemental education programs.
*Required Qualifications*:
· Master’s Degree
· Familiarity with supplemental education and best practices in
supplemental education at the collegiate level
· Experience providing academic assistance at the collegiate level
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· A commitment to providing exceptional student (customer) service
· Proficiency with current software packages including Microsoft Office
Suite
· Strong technology (including computer hardware and software) and web
based skills
· Ability to organize multiple projects/programs simultaneously
· Must be able to handle difficult situations with tact and diplomacy
*Desired/Preferred Qualifications:*
· Experience in instruction at the university level
· Management experience
· Proficiency using graphic design programs (Adobe CS3)
· Experience coordinating student programs
*Salary Grade*: 108 *Expected Salary Range*: $32,712.00 - $40,000.00
