I will add my 2 cents here as well. While set up time was stressful, the reports have already been well worth the work. I spoke to the rep at NCLCA and suggested that they work on the support aspect since they do have such a great product. Our issue with them is time zone related. We are eastern and there seems to be some issues with covering the time zone other than their own.

But again, the user-issues and report functions are FANTASTIC! My student-office staff and Writing Center Coordinator are very happy with the product. And as the Director, my learning curve was very brief to retrieve what I need at any point. For example, we have one drop-in center that is grant supported. The grant reviewers were here recently and in just a minute we could up-to-date data. They were impressed.

Installing any new database is going to be hell. Take a deep
breath--TutorTrac is worth the plunge. But it was harder than it had to be
with version 3 because the program advanced over the years but the manual
did not. We became dependent on emails and phone calls which is tough given
that they might have over 300 emails in their inbox on a given day. And
naturally, you need the answer NOW. You may have to wait a day--or week--or
two for an answer. That is not the way they want it--but it is the way it is
when they are slammed. When you do make contact with the staff, they are
accommodating and patient, sending helpful web shots whenever possible.
They will often offer to write scripts for specific things that you want
that you think you can't have.

We can do things like send emails to specific classes that we could never do
before. The reports are fabulous. No regrets. The number one rule if you
are thinking about purchasing TutorTrac is to get your IT people on board
from the get-go--I mean before you purchase the software. Have their rep
sit on the demo and make commitments to importing the data into TutorTrac.
Otherwise, you will never know the full power of TutorTrac.

I met the creator of TutorTrac and owner of the company at NCLCA and was
really impressed at his willingness to support his patrons! Yea Kelly!

I have been reticent about using the listserve since there have been
frequent criticisms about responses. I am new to the list and not
particularly computer savvy. However, this list is for all of us and the
information has helped me tremendously. I am about to have Tutrotrac
installed in my center and find the current feedback important. There are
many responses that do not apply to me, but they are easy to delete. I
really don't think that any of us should feel reluctant to use the site
because of our "lack of talent." Instead, I would ask for patience and
understanding that this information might be important to someone else on
the list.

Dean:

I see your point...just trying limit repetition. I just see so many "me
too's" and other repetitive responses with certain topics, it becomes like
nails on a chalkboard after awhile.

I will just delete...

Travis,

I understand the desire to limit emails. However, if those who respond to
Charlotte's (or anyone else's) email do so off-list, then I miss all the
good answers. I may have that same question. We do share answers here and
there may be a new thought on TutorTrac that has not been expressed in the
archives. I just want to be careful not to lose some of the critical ideas
or suggestions that I have become to enjoy and use over the years!

On a side note for everyone:
I did just receive a flurry of emails (11) from the list. Nine I could
immediately delete, one I saved for later use, and I have responded to this
one. All within the span of 30 seconds. Is it that difficult to delete these
emails if one doesn't need to read them. It does not bother me so much to
delete many emails I don't need. Just curious! And please don't refer me to
the archives for previous discussions on this topic! HAHA Sorry, just adding
a bit of levity to my long day!

Thanks,
Dean

Charlotte:

I would recommend that you search the LRNASST archives
(http://www.lists.ufl.edu/archives/lrnasst-l.html). TutorTrac is a very
popular discussion topic on LRNASST, and folks have shared their thoughts on
the product in the past.

I am trying to prevent an over-abundance of responses to your question in
our respective in-boxes, which has been already been discussed at great
depths.

And for those who want to respond to Charlotte's question of TutorTrac,
please e-mail her off-list.

Thanks!

I am curious to know if anyone uses the software TUTOR-TRAC in their Leaning
Center. If you do please give me any comments about satisfaction and how you
use it in the Learning Center.
