ECB Enviro North America in Lethbridge, Alberta has received a
grant for $8.2 million to construct a biogas cogeneration plant.
The plant will help to offset carbon emissions, which after an
Alberta law passed in 2007, can cost industry $15 per ton. The
plant will produce 3 MW of electricity and 3.8 MW of thermal
energy from organic wastes. An additional benefit of this will be
to thermally treat specified risk material (SRM) that includes
skull, brain, and spinal cord material from slaughter houses to
destroy prions that cause "Mad-cow" disease. The benefits of food
waste digestion are ever-increasing.
