Network Governance and the Governance of Networks: Social Network
Analysis in Political Science
ECPR SNA-ASNA fusion panel
17 September, Zurich
We invite papers that push the boundaries of existing research on applications of network analysis to political processes. Of particular interest is the preoccupation of political science with governance through networks. We are specifically interested on projects of theoretical and empirical value that would either: a. explore the evolution of networks across time; b. integrate different methodological approaches to the study of networks; or c. develop multilevel models to capture social complexity. Papers focused on a multilevel analysis integrating individuals, organisations and events as well as a diachronic analysis incorporating time into our theoretical models and empirical investigations, are very welcomed.
Our approach is not strictly empiricist and we also welcome substantive contributions that would foster the theoretical complexity of network analysis in politics and governance. This panel follows-on from a fruitful exchange between empirical and theoretical perspectives that commenced at the very succesful ECPR Munster session on Network Govenrnace in March 2010.
The panel is run parallel to the Conference on Application of Social Network Analysis (ASNA www.asna.ch), which is going to take place between 15 and 17 September 2010 in Zurich. Participants of the panel are welcome to register for the ASNA conference, but are not required to do so (those participating exclusively on the ECPR SNA panel do not have to register for the ASNA conference although strongly encouraged to do so). We are anticipating best contributions to provide the background of a journal special edition.
