Hello BESTers
A digester to be built in Elmira, Ontario has been met with public
criticism due to its proximity to urban development. The biggest
fear the critics claim is odor. Chuck Martin, president of
Woolwich Bio-En (the company constructing the digester), dispelled
these myths in a public meeting. Anaerobic digestion is in-fact,
an odor reducing technology. By capturing the biogas, the odors
are captured with it. Any fugitive odors are eliminated through a
biofilter system. This allows existing digesters to be in close
proximity to urban areas all around the world. The alternative (a
landfill), as I'm sure you all are aware, certainly cannot claim
to be odor-reducing.
Have a great weekend,
Ryan
