RE: December 1: Deadline to Apply for SMART Scholarships
The US Department of Defense's SMART (Science, Mathematics & Research for Transformation) Scholarship for Service Program is now seeking applicants enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) degree programs such as:
Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering
Biosciences
Chemical Engineering
Chemistry
Civil Engineering
Cognitive, Neural and Behavioral Sciences
Computer and Computational Sciences
Electrical Engineering
Geosciences
Industrial and Systems Engineering (Technical tracks only)
Information Sciences
Materials Science and Engineering
Mathematics
Mechanical Engineering
Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering
Nuclear Engineering
Oceanography
Operations Research (Technical tracks only)
Physics
SMART Scholarships pay tuition and other educational expenses, along with a cash reward based on prior education ($25,000 to $41,000) plus a health insurance allowance. They include summer internships at US Department of Defense facilities, with a stipend to cover travel expenses. Upon graduation, SMART Scholarship recipients are placed in civilian jobs in US Department of Defense laboratories and agencies. Post-degree service is commensurate with the length of the scholarship award.
Applicants must be United States citizens. (Permanent residents are not eligible.) Awardees must be eligible to receive and hold a security clearance.
The deadline for applications is Thursday, 1 December 2011.
