ANNOUNCEMENT

Date: September 27, 2011

To: All UF Graduate Students, Coordinators and Staff

From: Christine Ross
        Scholarly Communications Librarian
        George A. Smathers Libraries
        University of Florida

RE: Open Access Publishing, Funds and Upcoming Events

The UF George A. Smathers Libraries encourage our graduate student community to consider Open Access (OA) when publishing their scholarly works. Recent studies show that OA benefits the author because articles published online are made available much faster than those in traditional proprietary journals, thereby giving their research timely visibility, higher citation rates and greater overall impact.

The UF Open Access Publishing Fund (UFOAP) continues to be available to help UF researchers pay reasonable article-processing fees to cover OA publishing services when funds are not available from other sources. Any UF faculty, post-doctoral researcher, staff or student author may request up to $3,000 per year. For publishing fund policies, procedures and application, please visit the Smathers Libraries Open Access webpage:

http://www.uflib.ufl.edu/oa/

The Libraries also encourage you to attend "Open Access: Scholarship Unbound," our Open Access Week Event. The event will be held October 26, 2011, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Rion Ballroom at the Reitz Union. A full schedule of the afternoon's events can be viewed online at this link:

http://www.uflib.ufl.edu/oa/oaweek/

For more information on Open Access or the UFOAP, please feel free to contact Christine Ross, Scholarly Communications Librarian at 273-2710 or [log in to unmask], or visit the Open Access LibGuide online here:

Thank you!
