RE: October 18: Deadline for Abstracts for UF NSF Research Day

2011 NSF RESEARCH DAY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA

Theme of the Day: "Broader Impacts"
Date: October 25, 2011
Location: Grand Ballroom, Reitz Union, UF Campus

NSF Research Day is an annual event featuring research from graduate students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), including social, behavioral and economic (SBE) disciplines. It features posters from hundreds of students, roundtable discussions and workshop on topics of professional development, and a keynote address by Dr. Wyn Jennings, Division of Research on Learning in Formal and Informal Setting, Education and Human Resources Directorate at the National Science Foundation.

The event is open to all graduate and undergraduate students, as well as postdoctoral fellows, researchers and faculty.

This year's NSF Research Day is themed around BROADER IMPACTS. This highlights research that benefits society, integrates research and education, broadens participation of underrepresented groups, increases partnerships between academia and industry, and enhances the scientific and technological understanding of the public through outreach programs. To learn more about NSF's Broader Impacts visit: http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/gpg/broaderimpacts.pdf.

NSF Research Day will also feature a Poster Contest with awards given to the highest-scoring posters in four categories. The poster winners will receive a $200 award (and $300 for the Broader Impact in Actions category) that can be used for research related travel and/or lab supplies. There will be also honorable mentions for seven posters. The posters will be judged by a team of faculty and graduate students during the Poster Session on October 25th, 2011. Participation in the poster contest is optional; you may submit an abstract for a poster without entering the contest.

All are encouraged to attend and participate. To do so, please register at http://i3.institutes.ufl.edu/nsf-research-day.

Deadline for registration without abstract/poster submission: October 21, 2011
Deadline for Abstract Submission: October 18, 2011
