Hello BESTers,
Big news from Wisconsin. The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh has just
announced it will be constructing a $3.5 million food waste digester,
expected to be completed this year. It will be producing energy from
the campus's food and yard waste, as well as collecting food waste from
the surrounding community. The digester will divert 8,000 tons of
waste annually from landfills and will generate 5-10% of the school's
electricity needs, along with heat energy. As has been said many
times, universities are an ideal location to implement new
technologies, and there is huge potential at UF to develop a food waste
digestion program.
Have a great weekend,
Ryan
