Please forward this note broadly to potentially interested researchers/students.

Deadline for submission of talk abstracts is Tuesday February 15 at 5 pm EST.

Application form is at https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?key=0AlerF1FnL-hmcC03UE1zNkF4YWxTODNrZkU1SUxSY3c&hl=en&pli=1#gid=0

The Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR) is a cooperative venture among Oak Hammock, UF and Elderhostel. Continuing education programs are presented by University of Florida professors, as well as experts in particular fields of study - and classes are held on the Oak Hammock campus. For many years, the ILR has showed substantial support for research and training in aging at UF. The ILR sponsors annual mentor and student research awards.

This year, ILR invites students and emerging professionals (graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and possibly undergraduate first authors) to present at the "ILR/UF Student Research-on-Aging Symposium" on Tuesday March 15. All research presented is expected to address topics related to aging, late life, adult development, and/or associated age-related conditions/phenomena (e.g., dementia, physical disability). The three top scorers will receive a prize of $200 each, and the designation of "Best Speaker, ILR/UF Student Research-on-Aging Symposium".

Students who are interested in presenting should complete all information at https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?key=0AlerF1FnL-hmcC03UE1zNkF4YWxTODNrZkU1SUxSY3c&hl=en&pli=1#gid=0 .

a. The symposium will be broken into four sessions: 10-10:45 am, 11-11:45 am, 1:15-2:00 pm, 2:15-3:00 pm. Students should indicate which of these time slots will work for them below. All presentations will occur AT the Oak Hammock Campus on March 15. Directions to Oak Hammock may be found at http://contact.oakhammock.org/ContactUs.aspx

b. Up to 12 presentations will be selected for inclusion in the symposium.

c. A panel of judges, comprised of ILR members, will judge all presentations. Dimensions judged will include: Aging relevance, clarity of topic/application, originality and organization, depth of understanding, visuals, oral skills, vocal clarity, professionalism, acknowledgement of collaborators, response to questions.

d. Students are not required to attend all sessions. Presenters should be present for the symposium session into which they are scheduled. Notification regarding which speakers have been selected for the program, and their assigned time slot, will be provided to speakers by February 22, 2011.

e. A Windows XP computer with Powerpoint 2007, LCD projector and screen, microphone and speaker system, and speaker's podium will be provided. Speakers should bring their presentations on a USB-Flash drive.

f. One factor determining selection of speakers may be speaker availability. Students with limited availability (see Question 12 of the web-linked form above) may not be able to be accommodated on the program.
