When you are able to read German. I can recommend the following two books:
Christian Stegbauer, 2001, Grenzen virtueller Gemeinschaft. Strukturen
internetbasierter Kommunikationsforen. Wiesbaden: Westdeutscher Verlag
and
Christian Stegbauer, Alexander Rausch, 2006, Strukturalistische
Internetforschung. Netzwerkanalysen internetbasierter
Kommunikationsforen. Wiesbaden: Verlag für Sozialwissenschaften.
Both publications deal with the construction of ties out of threads.
Several theoretical and methodological approaches are discussed.
Best

Considering the simplest ways, this would leave me three choices as for network building: create a complete graph out of a thread (connect everyone with everyone), create a star-graph with the thread-starter in the middle or connect users to the previous person who replied.
