The Universities at Shady Grove is seeking two Coordinators for the Center for Academic Success. The duties include the following:
Provide one-on-one academic learning support to students in the following areas: Writing (research, grammar, structure, and organization), Learning Strategies, Time Management, Standardized Test-Taking, Onsite Tutoring (Writing/Content). This learning support would include walk-in writing labs, phone tutoring based on papers received online, and asynchronous/synchronous consultations via the internet.
Responsible for facilitating required accommodations for students with disabilities on behalf of partner institutions at USG. Develop manuals and orientation sessions for faculty and disability students on policies, procedures, and resources related to disability support at USG. Oversee proctoring and scribing for exams in CAS for learning and physically disabled students with this documented accommodation.
Responsible for developing, delivering, and tracking workshops to address writing, study skills, and other issues related to academic performance. Coordinate and execute the extensive Guided Study Sessions (GSS) program including planning training for tutoring staff, meeting regularly with tutoring staff, observing specific sessions, and informing students about timings of GSS.
Coordinate various data collection projects, surveys and assessment, ongoing statistical analysis and reporting projects. Complete various research activities and reports in the areas of Guided Study Sessions, workshops, and writing consultations to demonstrate successful student learning. Conduct various writing and publication design activities including correspondence, reports, newsletter, publications and web content.
Monitor and enhance inventory of educational materials including handouts, books, software, and websites to provide ways that CAS can help students independently pursue their learning needs. Other duties as assigned.
Possess flexibility to be available for evening consultations (5-7 PM) and occasional weekend events (workshops, open house events, ca. 4-5 times per year).
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred. Two - three years teaching/tutoring experience involving writing and study strategies preferred, especially in a higher education setting.
