RE: February 13: African FLAS Fellowship Application Deadline
The UF Center for African Studies is accepting applications for FLAS (Foreign Language and Area Studies) Fellowships for Summer 2012 and the 2012-2013 academic year.
Fellowships provide a stipend of $15,000 per academic year and cover the cost of tuition and fees (12 credits per semester) and are offered for any one of the regularly taught languages (Akan, Amharic, Arabic, Portuguese, Swahili, Xhosa, Wolof and Yoruba), as well as for other African languages for which instruction can be arranged. Applicants must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States and be admitted to a graduate program at the University of Florida. Application and instructions can be found here:
Summer fellowships provide a stipend of $2500 and covers tuition and fees up to $5000. Application and additional instructions can be found here:
Successful applicants will show:
* Clear promise of completing a graduate degree with a concentration in African language and area studies.
* A plan to pursue field research in Africa using the language of study.
* An excellent academic record as demonstrated by academic performance and strong recommendations.
