RE: March 29 and April 5: "How to Use TeX and LaTex" Seminars for Graduate Students
The UF Graduate Mathematics Association invites graduate students to two seminars on how to produce high-quality papers, presentations and publications with TeX (pronounced "tech") and LaTeX (pronounced "LAY-tech"), two important tools that are useful for just about any graduate student:
Thursday, March 29, 2012
4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
339 Little Hall (The Atrium)
Introduction to TeX and LaTeX language and typesetting
Thursday, April 5, 2012
4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
339 Little Hall (The Atrium)
Advanced Topics and Making Presentations
Refreshments will be provided at both seminars.
LaTeX is a free typesetting system used for producing high quality journal articles, presentations, and even textbooks. Rather than writing the document in a word processor (which makes many of its own decisions about document formatting), LaTeX grants you full control over every aspect of the page. Instead of fighting with a word processor line by line, you are able to specify all the formatting details at the beginning, freeing you to concentrate on content rather than formatting. Knowledge of the program is all but required for scientific publishing, and is becoming more widespread throughout academics.
