Hello Best,
Scientists at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Brookhaven National
Laboratory have found that feeding algae more carbon increases oil
production as well as letting the algae continue to grow. The scientists
were able to learn about the effect of carbon by comparing an algae
called of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii to its mutant form that lacks the
capacity to make starch. Before this research, the scientists would
starve the algae of key nutrients, such as nitrogen, which would
increase the output of oil but stopped algal growth.
