Last week the United Nations held its Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro,
the Rio+20. The 692 individual pledges adding up to $513 billion in
worth are aimed at sustainable energy, water conservation, and poverty.
Specific promises cover everything from higher education programs in
sustainability issues, to grants for projects including $20 billion to
establish clean energy in Africa. In what came to be the biggest UN
Earth Summit ever, nations agreed to continue talking about their
“sustainable development goals.”
