Dear BEST members,
This article from Care2.com explains how advances in technology have
proven tobacco plants, alcohol waste products, and seaweed as 3
potential methods for producing biofuels. Tobacco sells have declined
and scientists in a California lab believe this new use of the plant
will enhance our health. Tobacco was chosen for many benefits including:
it is grown in over 100 countries and its large leaves can store lots of
fuel. To continue, the alcohol byproducts of whiskey produce biobutanol,
which potentially produces 30% more energy than bioethanol. Scientists
at Edinburg Napier University say the butanol produced could eventually
be pumped right into existing automobile engines. Lastly, seaweed can be
used as an effective biofuel because it can yield 1,500 gallons of
ethanol per acre. There would be no need to find arable land because
seaweed grows in the sea of course.
