Hertz has just teamed up with Liberty Tire Recycling to turn their old
tires into new products, like mulch. They are claiming that it is the
first zero landfill waste tire program in the industry. Liberty already
recycles tires from WalMart, Costco, Pep Boys, and Bridgestone. Hertz
goes through about 160,000 tires each year and they hope to send them
all to Liberty. Currently about 90 percent of the country's tires are
being recycled, which means we still send about 25 million to landfills.
Hertz is hoping other rental car companies will follow its lead.
