This week's theme is Bioethanol.
This article details how the EPA estimated that a certain amount of
ethanol fuel was be produced from cellulosic ethanol. The EPA's
projections were deemed unreasonable by a court mandate, ruling in favor
of the American Petroleum Institute. The EPA estimation would have
required the API to purchase a certain amount of cellulosic ethanol fuel
to produce gasoline. While there were only 22,000 gallons of ethanol
produced in 2012, the EPA set their projections at 8.7 million gallons.
From the context in the rest of the article, it appears that the API
will use the unrealistic expectations the EPA set out in ethanol
production to further discredit the EPA in the future.
