hello everyone,
my point - expressed too aggressively, i
admit - was that care is needed in selecting network data for analysis.
this need not imply waiting for a perfect data set. however, i forgot to
mention that neither britain nor france, both early and continual
meddlers in the middle east, were also missing. so i do not accept these
data as true in a qualitative sense. even less so regarding the ties
themselves. it seems strange to characterize ties between these parties
as simply positive or negative. they are far more complex. but if they
are recoded to positive and negative ties, we do need to know the
principles used.
we do need principled ways of
collecting/accepting data. the data sets others have pointed to in this
brief exchange appear to satisfy this requirement. the blogger's network
does not.
with best wishes
pat
