ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENTS AND OPPORTUNITIES

3. ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENT: Askew Scholar Deadline Extended:
The Bob Graham Center is accepting applications for the Askew Scholars Program. The program will identify an outstanding cohort of spring semester sophomores, selected on the basis of their commitment to community service and civic engagement. Undergraduates from any major at UF may apply but students must be in their fourth semester at UF in spring 2014 (not counting summer semesters). The GPA requirement is 3.5 and above. Those selected for this program take several courses in public policy, receive intensive leadership training, and will work with a mentor to help prepare them for a life of public service. Graham Scholars will also receive a scholarship of $3000.00 to support a significant civic research project which will culminate with the submission of a senior thesis and/or scholarly journal article. Application materials are due Friday, February 14. Learn more at: http://www.bobgrahamcenter.ufl.edu/students/reubin-askew-scholars. For additional information contact Dr. Dickison at [log in to unmask]

7. LEADERSHIP: Women's Leadership Conference (NEW POSTING):
The 27th Annual Women's Leadership Conference will take place on Sunday, February 16 from 10:00am-4:00pm in the Reitz Union Grand Ballroom. This conference provides an opportunity for participants to hone leadership skills, prepare for success in leadership roles and celebrate women creating change. It includes a series of breakout workshops on various leadership themes, networking opportunities, and our keynote speaker Diana Moreno, community organizer and UF alumna. Workshops will cover personal and professional development, and there will be a tabling fair to provide more opportunities to get involved as emerging leaders.

The theme of this year's conference is "Igniting the Spark: Women's Leadership and Activism." It supports three perspectives: Gathering the Matches (preparing ourselves as young women), Catching Fire (capitalizing upon our potential), and Lighting the Way (how women can utilize these perspectives to think beyond themselves and better the lives of others).
