HONORS OFFICE ANNOUNCEMENTS

1.	ANNOUNCEMENT: End of Semester Honors Daily and Walk-in Advising:
The last day of the semester for the Honors Daily, as well as for walk-in advising, will be Wednesday, December 10. You can continue to make advising appointments through finals by calling the Honors Office.

2.	ANNOUNCEMENT: Honors Infirmary Study Room during Reading Days:
We have reserved room 302 Infirmary (the big room by the elevators) as an Honors study room, available from 9:00am-5:00pm during the two Reading Days next week (December 11 and 12). We hope you'll take advantage of having an extra space to hang out during the day as you prepare for finals!

3.	ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENT: Phi Beta Kappa Membership:
Tapped to join Phi Beta Kappa this semester? Don't toss the invitation into the trash, thinking this is one more solicitation for your hard-earned cash. Getting selected for this honorary society is a great accomplishment and recognized by grad schools, law and med schools as meaning you are among the best students academically at your institution.

Phi Beta Kappa is the nation's oldest, most selective, and most prestigious liberal arts honor society. Dr. Johnson is a proud member! Former Honors Director, Dr. Knudson, is the current UF chapter president.

Phi Beta Kappa will be noted on your transcript and will make a very nice line on your resume. It also has some prestigious awards for graduate study, so if you are a member, take a look at the national website to see what is available.

Standards for election into Phi Beta Kappa are extremely high, and membership is by invitation only. Outstanding GPA is only one consideration, and distribution and diversity of coursework in the liberal arts and sciences is another. For more information, visit http://www.honors.ufl.edu/PBK/Home.aspx or http://www.pbk.org

Also note that induction into Phi Beta Kappa counts as an academic point towards Honors completion requirements.

4.	ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENT: Strengths Coaching:
Wondering how to best utilize your talents and strengths? Make a Strengths Coaching appointment with Dr. Johnson! She can review your top talent themes from the StrengthsQuest assessment and help you determine ways to leverage those strengths as a student leader.

If you have already taken the StrengthsQuest assessment, just make sure you know your top 5 themes.

If you haven't taken the StrengthsQuest assessment, visit http://bit.ly/1BdubI4 to take it for $10

Then, call the Honors Office and request a coaching appointment.

5.	HONORS COURSE ANNOUNCEMENT: New (Un)Common Read - Crazy Love and the Bible:
IDH 3931, section 181D with Professor Dror Abend has been updated. The (Un)Common Read is now "Crazy Love and the Bible - A Reading of the Song of Songs." The course will include a reading of the song, some phrases from the song in the original Hebrew, and some literary and musical adaptations and references to the Song of Songs.

Course assignments include a writing assignment (25%), a presentation (25%), and class participation (50%). This course meets Mondays, 5th period in FAC 0127.
