1.	ANNOUNCEMENT: Honors Daily Hiatus (NEW POSTING):
The Honors Daily will be on hiatus from Friday, February 14 through Wednesday, February 19. If you have events that need to run during this time, please submit them early so they can run by this Thursday. Thanks!

2.	ADVISING ANNOUNCEMENT: Walk-in Advising Cancelations (NEW POSTING):
Walk-in advising hours have been canceled on the following dates:

- Wednesday, February 12 from 10:00am-12:00pm with Regan.
- Tuesday, February 18 from 10:00-12:00pm with Dr. Johnson.

3.	SCHOLARSHIP / AWARD: Fulbright-National Geographic Digital Storytelling Fellowship:
The U.S. Department of State and the National Geographic Society are partnering to launch the inaugural Fulbright-National Geographic Digital Storytelling Fellowship competition. This new component of the Fulbright Program will offer up to five awards to U.S. citizens. Over a nine-month period, awardees will create multimedia stories on globally significant social or environmental topics including biodiversity, cities, climate change, cultures, energy, food, oceans, and water.¡¡¡¡

The Fulbright-National Geographic Fellowship provides a unique platform for U.S. Fulbright awardees to build awareness of transnational challenges, comparing and contrasting cross-border issues. Fellows will share their stories through National Geographic¡¯s platforms, using a variety of digital storytelling tools, including text, photography, video, audio, graphic illustrations, and/or social media.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens and have completed at least an undergraduate degree by the commencement of the Fulbright award (i.e. graduating seniors are eligible to apply). Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience and talent in digital storytelling.

Application deadline is February 28 at 5:00pm EST.

4.	INTERNSHIP: The Washington Center Info Session (TODAY):
Interested in politics, public policy, international relations, business, health care, non-profits, education, or the arts? The Washington Center (TWC) allows UF students to earn academic credit while interning. Summer, Fall, and Spring internships are available in over 2000 public, private, non- profit and government agencies in all fields in Washington DC. Substantial scholarships and financial assistance available to UF students. 

UF alumna Kristen Messich of The Washington Center will be hosting two information sessions about TWC's programs next week ¨C Tuesday, February 11 in Little Hall 119 during 9th period (4:05pm) and Wednesday, February 12 in Little 117 during 8th period (3:00pm). 5.	ANNOUNCEMENT: Honors Dance Marathon Team Dancer Registration (NEW POSTING):

7.	EVENT: 1 Shirt = 1 Bear Valentine¡¯s Day Fundraiser (NEW POSTING, TODAY):
Light up someone's world this Valentine's Day! Prism: UF Honors Program Magazine is selling shirts for a good cause. For each shirt bought, we will donate a teddy bear to the hospital to be delivered to a child as a Valentine's Day gift. 9.	EVENT: Honors Without Borders Meeting (NEW POSTING):
Honors Without Borders will be holding their 2nd meeting of the semester in the New Physics Building at 7:30pm on February 13th, room location TBA via the listserv. Also, the $10 dues will be due at the meeting for all new members without T-shirts.

10.	EVENT: Honors Valentine¡¯s Day Candy Grams (TODAY):
Want to send a sweet surprise to a special someone? This is your chance to bring a smile to a friend on Valentine¡¯s Day. SHO will be selling the candy grams (that come with an awesome card) on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (February 11, 12, 13) from 2:00-5:00pm for only $1! 11.	EVENT: SHO Presents: The Audio Experience:
Have you ever wanted to be part of a Flash Mob, but you didn't think that it was cool enough? We will be putting on an unconventional type of Flashmob, the kind where everyone receives perfectly synchronized instructions via their headphones on what to do, while everyone nearby watches in amazement. Participants should meet by the Hume Arches at 2:15pm on February 13 wearing a blue, red, yellow, or green t-shirt, carrying with them a smart phone and set of working headphones. ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENTS AND OPPORTUNITIES

12.	ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENT: Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi (NEW POSTING):
Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi will bring her experience and insight to the Bob Graham Center on Thursday, February 13 at 6:00pm in the Pugh Hall Ocora. The event will be moderated by Bob Graham Center Director Dr. David Colburn. The discussion will cover a range of issues, from education to Florida politics. The program is free and open to the public and will be streamed live at www.bobgrahamcenter.ufl.edu/.

13.	ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENT: UF Law Student Panel (NEW POSTING):
On Monday, February 17 from 4:30-5:30pm in Farrior Hall Room 200, a panel of law students from UF¡¯s Levin College of Law will discuss everything from how they made the decision to attend law school, law school admission tips, what the ¡°day in the life of a law student¡± is really like, and what every pre-law student should know about law school before making their final decision to attend law school. There will also be time for Q & A.

14.	ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENT: Department of Political Science Film Series: Traffic (NEW POSTING):
The Department of Political Science is hosting a film series for faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students. All films will be shown in 034 Anderson from 6:00-9:00pm. The idea is to have a relatively informal venue with relatively entertaining films, which nonetheless may have more political significance than the lens through which we may view them when for pure entertainment.

There is an historical trajectory suggested in this film series, as well as a common theme regarding changes in state power, and in the relationship between state/economic/social actors, over time. Monday, February 17: Film ¨C Traffic. A dramatic account of the drug trade as it crosses the Mexico-U.S. border, involving the traders themselves, as well as the police who cross the border in effort to pursue them; looks at questions of state power from the other side -- perhaps there are reasons for state power? Sebastian Sclofsky, Ph.D. Student, Department of Political Science will give introductory comments on crime statistics and the War on Drugs in the United States and Latin America.

15.	ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENT: Authors@UF Hosts Steven Noll and David Tegeder (NEW POSTING):
Smathers Libraries Authors@UF program hosts Steven Noll, Department of History, University of Florida and David Tegeder, Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Santa Fe College, and History, UF.

A conversation with the co-authors of their award-winning ¡°Ditch of Dreams: The Cross Florida Barge Canal and the Struggle for Florida's Future¡± -  Winner of the Rembert Patrick Book Award and the Gulf South Historical Association Book Award in 2010. This event will take place on Monday, February 17 at 7:00pm in Smathers Library (East), room 1A. Free and open to the public; refreshments will be served.
 
16.	ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENT: Harn Museum Creative Writing Competition:
The Harn Museum of Art will be holding a new creative writing competition, Words on Canvas. The contest is open to undergraduate and graduate students across all disciplines.

The Harn's collection contains artwork that we hope will inspire thought-provoking and evocative writing. Students may submit works of prose between 500-1000 words and poems up to 30 lines in length. For Words on Canvas, students will have a choice of ten works of art from our five main collecting areas - a list of these works will be available at the Harn front desk. 

Submissions will be accepted through March 15, and the awards ceremony will be held on April 5. Prizes will be awarded to winning contestants in the form of Harn merchandise from our Museum Store, and winning submissions will also be published on the Words on Canvas website.

17.	ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENT: City of Gainesville Hack-a-Thon:
The City of Gainesville will be hosting its first ever Hack-a-thon on February 22 from 11:30am-8:00pm at the Hippodrome in celebration of International Open Data Day and the City¡¯s own open data initiative. Cash prizes will be awarded to individuals who create applications that utilize municipal information in a manner that benefits the public. 18.	ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENT: Askew Scholar Deadline Extended:
The Bob Graham Center is accepting applications for the Askew Scholars Program. The program will identify an outstanding cohort of spring semester sophomores, selected on the basis of their commitment to community service and civic engagement. Undergraduates from any major at UF may apply but students must be in their fourth semester at UF in spring 2014 (not counting summer semesters). The GPA requirement is 3.5 and above. Those selected for this program take several courses in public policy, receive intensive leadership training, and will work with a mentor to help prepare them for a life of public service. Graham Scholars will also receive a scholarship of $3000.00 to support a significant civic research project which will culminate with the submission of a senior thesis and/or scholarly journal article. 19.	SCHOLARSHIP / AWARD: Phyllis M. Meek Spirit of Susan B. Anthony Award Application (NEW POSTING):
Applications have been released for the Phyllis M. Meek Spirit of Susan B. Anthony Award. This award aims to recognize a young woman at the University of Florida who best represents courage, confidence, leadership and dedication- qualities that defined Anthony herself.

The Harn Museum of Art invites students from all majors to apply for Summer 2014 internships.

There are projects in many departments of the museum, including Curatorial, Development, Education, Facilities/Grounds, Marketing & PR, Registration, Visitor Services, and the Store. We also consider student-initiated projects. There are a limited number of funded internship opportunities, although most internships are unpaid.

22.	JOB OPPORTUNITY: Federal Work Study Position with America Reads:
America Reads at UF is a collaborative project designed to provide literacy tutoring to at-risk students in the Gainesville community. Tutoring takes place at a variety of locations, including local schools and community centers. 30.	EVENT: Asian Americans in the Workplace (NEW POSTING):
Join APIA Affairs on Thursday, February 13 from 2:00-3:00pm in Peabody Hall, Room 411 as we explore the meaning of diversity and its importance in the workplace. We will have professionals from fields such as business/entrepreneurship, education, law, and medicine share their experiences being an Asian American in the workforce and the obstacles they faced.  We will also discuss inequality in the professional environment and how to respond to it. Finally, we will present "case studies" that will allow participants to work in groups and decide how they would respond to instances of inequality.

UF's Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers will be hosting this semester's QuickRace on Saturday, February 15 at 11:00am. Teams of four will run and drive across campus in search for QR codes. The top teams to reach the ending location will win a prize. This semester's theme is The World of Gaming.

Beast Feast, a buffet-style wild game dinner hosted by the UF Wildlife Society, will be Saturday, February 15 at 5:30pm at the Whitehurst Lodge in Williston, FL. Tickets are $15. This year will feature: whitetail deer, Spanish mackerel, raccoon, opossum, grey squirrel, anoles, hog, quail, pheasant, alligator, red deer, and many other species.
