Hello Best Members,
Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC), a research institute of the
University of Central Florida, works to educate K-12 teachers and
schools about renewable energy technologies, developing environment and
energy curricula for teachers to use. The courses offered (Alternative
Fuel Matters, Building Performance Matters, High Energy Hydrogen, Solar
Matters, Understanding Solar Energy) include both classroom instruction
and hands-on field experience. The Florida Solar Energy Center also
hosts an annual EnergyWhiz Olympics where hundreds of students unite at
the center in Cocoa, Florida to engage in renewable energy themed events
such as the Solar Energy Cook-Off and the Hydrogen Challenge. Created in
1999, the EnergyWhiz Olympics have provided students with an opportunity
to not only demonstrate their STEM knowledge and stimulate thought
through competition but also to become exposed to new, innovative
technology in response to energy issues.
FSEC’s dedication to sharing knowledge and their active participation
in educational programs is one example of an institute investing in our
future.
