Navigating a Successful Career - Women in STEM Fields Isabel Johnson Program Leader and Principal at Golder Associates Inc.
You are invited to come hear the success story of how Isabel Johnson has navigated her way through her career in STEM. She is currently managing the US Corps of Engineers/South Florida Water Management District as a part of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration and Recover Plan; the largest wetland restoration project in the world. She has also managed or participated in environmental assessments and reviews for projects in Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Venezuela, Brazil, Canada, Guinea-Bissau, and Italy. In addition to her wide array of experience in industry, she also has managed multi-million-dollar contracts with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Isabel's multidisciplinary background has allowed her extend her expertise in projects that include, baseline and environmental impact assessments, coastal studies, water quality monitoring and assessment, ecological risk assessments, marine and freshwater biological studies, environmental toxicology and contamination evaluations, sediment contamination studies, and development of research programs. Throughout her career she has accumulated nearly 50 publications. Come learn from her extensive knowledge!
Isabel Johnson is originally from Chile. She began her work in the US at the University of Florida (UF) studying bryozoans from the Gulf of Mexico. She has held positions as a research biologist, bioassay program manager, and a project scientist. She currently teaches graduate level courses at UF in the area of ecological risk assessment. In addition to being an instructor, she is a Program Leader and Principal at Golder Associates Incorporated, a global company providing consulting. She received her A.A. from the College of Arts and Sciences and a B.S in Zoology from UF. She then went on to earn her M.S. in Biology-Marine Science from the University of West Florida, Pensacola.
