Hi Jane,
We opened our Learning Commons in 2008. We have Tutoring, Academic Coaching, the Writing Studio, IT Help desk, Undergraduate Research, a Digital Media Commons, a large Math Lab/Math Support area and some Career Services, as well as Starbucks, :) I will be happy to chat with you about student usage as we have evolved.
Also, I encourage you to consider the Canadian Learning Commons Conference or at least look at some of their Learning Commons websites. They were an incredibly helpful group.
Let me know if you would like to follow up off list.

Subject: Learning Commons and Academic Success
Good morning,
Our college is exploring the possibility of renovating our library into a Learning Commons. Within this design, the library building would be redesigned to include additional services - Technology Support, Academic Advising, Academic Support Services, a cafe, etc.
I am looking for any research/articles that have studied the Learning
Commons model in terms of students accessing tutoring services. The
question that the college is curious to learn more about is whether students use the Academic Support Services more often since they would be housed in the Library.
Any research on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jane Lerner, M.Ed.
