Subject: Academic Skill Building for Health Sciences Majors
Hello Folks,
In a meeting with our school of Health Sciences today, they inquired about our department possibly having an opportunity to build students' (who are on program probation) academic skills related to their major.
We currently have a semester-long class devoted to first year students on university academic probation, however, we do not feel this class would be appropriate for the students mentioned above. The health sciences students (occupational therapy, speech pathology, nursing, etc.) are high achieving students who need a higher level of academic skill building instruction.
Is there anyone out there who provides any type of support to schools or departments that are academically demanding and that students have fallen below the required program GPA?
Our thoughts are maybe offering a workshop series for these students or maybe a four week class.
Please let me know if you or anyone you know is doing this. Also, if you have suggestions on what types of things we could offer these students, please let me know.
Best,
Holly
