Aims Community College is hiring a full time instructor to teach AAA
courses.  The department Advancing Academic Achievement (AAA) offers a
course to help students grow as learners by gaining knowledge, skills and
confidence related to their personal and academic success. The department
works in conjunction with the Center for the First Year Experience program
towards a shared mission to create and sustain an environment that supports
a successful academic and social transition of students into Aims Community
College.

Job Summary: The Advancing Academic Achievement (AAA) Strategies Instructor
maintains compliance with the provisions of the College’s full-time faculty
position description. This includes teaching to develop, implement,
evaluate, and update the purpose, philosophy, objectives, and organizational
framework of the program.

Duties, Roles & Responsibilities:
1. Teaching: Provide effective and high quality instruction in academic
success and study skills. Continually refine and modernize curriculum so
that it remains educationally sound and meets the high standards of Aims
Community College; develop curriculum as assigned. Demonstrate through
instruction an understanding of developmental/remedial students. Utilize
best practices in addressing student learning.
2. Professional Development: Maintain currency in student development
theory, developmental education pedagogy, and student learning outcomes.
Adopt new teaching methodology as appropriate.
3. Participate in the development, implementation, and refinement of
academic assessment in the department and at the College.
4. College Service: Provide meaningful participation on college committees
or organizations. Participate in community service opportunities as
assigned.
5. Implement institutional, divisional, department and personal goals as
assigned.
6. Initiate and maintain professional relationships with external agencies,
businesses and other educational institutions as assigned.
7. Use technology to facilitate student learning during classroom
instruction. Use Desire2Learn (D2L), the college’s learning management
system to develop and maintain course shells for sections instructed; meet
required minimum expectations for the use of D2L.
8. Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the department
chair or academic dean.

Minimum Qualifications1.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a
part/full-time basis.
2. Bachelor’s Degree in education, English, reading, psychology, sociology,
human services, or communication studies.
OR
Bachelor’s Degree in any academic discipline AND 18 graduate hours in
education, counseling, psychology, sociology or related discipline
OR Bachelor’s Degree in any area and at least 6,000 hours of work
experience.
3. Classroom teaching experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal attributes (KSAPs):
1. Computer literacy and the ability to use technology in classroom
instruction; willing to develop proficiency with the college’s learning
management system, Desire2Learn.
2. Experience using varied instructional delivery methods, including
lecture, group work, real world activities, and critical thinking
activities.
3. Demonstrated ability and willingness to work as a team member as
exhibited by a genuine spirit of cooperation and flexibility.
4. Demonstrated ability and willingness to establish and maintain positive
and professional interpersonal relationships with students, faculty, staff
and administrators.
5. Demonstrated knowledge of current student development theory and
developmental education pedagogy; the coaching mentality and practice
necessary to lead students into a success mindset.
6. Commitment to the philosophy that each individual should be allowed an
opportunity to succeed regardless of past experience.
7. Willingness to embrace and apply the provisions of Aims Community College’s
mission statement, purposes, philosophy and commitment to affirmative
action.
8. Ability to take classes in teaching methods, curriculum development,
computer applications or other coursework deemed necessary by the department
chair or academic dean.

Min Salary	Salary is based on the Aims Community College Faculty Salary
Schedule and is commensurate with education and experience. This is a
nine-month contract paid out over 12 months.
