9th Winter School on Longitudinal Social Network Analysis and Advanced Siena
Users meeting (AdSUM-2017)
6-10 February 2017, Linköping University, Campus Norrköping

IAS

Siena

The 9th Winter School on Longitudinal Social Network Analysis and the 2017
Advanced Siena Users Meeting (AdSUM-2017) will take place in the week of 6-10
February 2017 in Norrköping, Sweden. The meetings are organised at the
Institute for Analytical Sociology by Christian Steglich, Åsa Wallhagen, and
Niclas Lovsjö.

The 9th Winter School on Longitudinal Social Network Analysis
The 9th Winter School on Longitudinal Social Network Analysis will take place
on Monday till Wednesday. It introduces participants to the analysis of
longitudinal, group-centered network data by way of stochastic, actor-based
models (Snijders, van de Bunt & Steglich, 2010), and to the analysis of peer
influence processes taking place in such dynamically changing networks
(Steglich, Snijders & Pearson, 2010). Objective of the winter school is that
course participants develop an understanding of the models, familiarise
themselves with the use of theRSiena software for model estimation, and learn
how to tell a good model specification from a bad one. The winter school will
be taught by Christian Steglich with support by Niclas Lovsjö. Previous
editions of this winter school took place at the University of Groningen
(2005-2015) and at the ETH Zürich (2016).

The AdSUM-2017 Advanced Siena Users meeting
The AdSUM-2017 Advanced Siena Users meeting will take place on Thursday and
Friday. It will on the one hand address advanced topics and introduce to new
developments in RSiena, such as the multilevel analysis of multi-group data
with the help of random effects models instantiated in the
sienaBayes()-function. Teachers of this part are Tom Snijders and Johan
Koskinen. On the other hand, there will be a Master Class in which papers of
participants are discussed. The procedure for the master class is as follows:
Abstracts of participants that would like to present a paper can be submitted
before December 15. Within one week after this deadline, authors will be
informed about acceptance. For accepted abstracts, the authors are expected to
submit papers for discussion until January 20. The papers should have a length
of no more than 15 pages, and be accompanied with an R-script and data, so the
analysis can be reproduced. Paper discussants will be Tom Snijders, Christoph
Stadtfeld, Per Block, and the local organisers.

For both the Winter School and the Advanced Siena Users Meeting, researchers
who are in the process of collecting or analysing own longitudinal data sets
are especially welcome to participate and, if possible, bring their own data.
For participants without own data, sample data sets will be made available.

Prerequisites for participation in the Winter School
Prerequisites for participation in the Winter School are familiarity with basic
social network analysis, some knowledge of intermediate statistics (including
logistic regression analysis), and basic familiarity with the R statistical
software environment. For the AdSUM-2016 a good knowledge of RSiena and
stochastic actor-based models for network evolution is important.

You can register by filling in the registration form (see link at the bottom of
this page). The maximum number of participants per course module is 30; for the
Master Class, we handle a maximum of five presenters. For those who register
after the maximum number is reached, a waiting list will be created.

Registration fees
Registration fees depend on intended participation and job status, as indicated
in the following table.

Job status	Winter School AdSUM-2017
Non-academics, academic staff & postdocs	2400 SEK (~ 240)	1600
SEK (~ 160)
Students & graduate students	1650 SEK (~ 165)	1100 SEK (~ 110)
Fees include course materials, coffee breaks (morning and afternoon), and
internet access (WiFi). Participants are expected to bring their own computer
for lab exercises. Hotel accommodation, lunches and dinners are not included in
the registration fee.

Registration
If you want to participate, please fill in the registration form no later than
December 9, 2016. Further information about accommodation in Norrköping and
preparation for the course will be made available shortly.
