The United States Army Research Laboratory (ARL) is seeking applications for one or two postdoctoral positions within the areas of computational cognitive studies, intelligent systems technologies, machine learning approaches towards algorithm development, computational modeling, big data analytics, or computational approaches applied to the social sciences. ARL is a basic and applied science and technology laboratory. This position is with Social Information Exploitation team in the Computational Information Sciences Directorate. The team conducts basic and applied research within wide ranging computational topic areas including: crowd and online behavior, social simulation and modeling, big data analysis and visualization, decision support technologies, and human information interaction (humans interacting with information in militarily relevant environments).

The candidate will have completed a doctorate degree before hire and have multidisciplinary research experience with emphasis on machine learning techniques, statistical analysis, research design, and data science. Competent computer programming skills are required. Candidates will be expected to work on a combination of their own research and collaborative projects contributing to the ongoing development of the team's mission.
The postdoctoral position is located at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD, which sits on the Chesapeake Bay, and is about 40 miles from Baltimore and 70 miles from Washington, D.C. This position is a renewable one year appointment through the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education http://www.orau.org/maryland/ with an approximate salary of $80,000/year without benefits. Relocation is not provided.
