We are soliciting high-quality original research papers (and significant work-in-progress papers) describing any aspects of multilevel algorithmic approaches, as well as the design and implementation of solutions and systems in which the multilevel approach plays one of the central roles.
Many interpretations of multilevel algorithms exist in different domains. In this Special Issue, we refer to those multilevel (also known as multiscale, multigrid inspired, and multiresolution) algorithms whose characteristic features are related to creating and leveraging a hierarchy of coarse problems, each representing the original problem at different coarse levels with fewer degrees of freedom. The degrees of freedom could be expressed as, but are not limited to variables, dimensionality, or time steps.
All research areas in which multilevel algorithms are relevant will be considered, however, submissions in graph algorithms, machine learning, network science, optimization, social and complex networks, numerical methods, and the high-performance implementation of multilevel approaches are especially encouraged.
