I use the same method that John uses, having everyone learn everyone else's
name in the class. I use this method for several other reasons, too, however,
which I point out to the students AFTER several people have successfully named
everyone in the class.
1. I point out that in 15 to 20 minutes they have successfully learned
the names of from 15 to 25 new people: they CAN easily learn new
information!
2. I then lead the class through a discussion of how we learned the
new names. The class quickly realizes that we did it together, we
helped each other, we reviewed frequently, we concentrated for
a short period of time on one task, etc. So, we end up talking
about how to learn new information, i.e., study skills, in the
process, too.
