 INVITES APPLICATIONS FOR

LIBRARIAN/INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES SPECIALIST

Effective Date of Employment: Fall, 1999

                  THE POSITION

                  Initial assignment at Moorpark College. All Academic
employees are subject to assignment in any
                  college of the District depending upon staffing needs
as defined within the terms of the VCCCD/AFT
                  Agreement.

                  DESCRIPTION

                  Under the direction of the Dean, Library and Learning
Resources, the Librarian/Instructional Resource
                  Specialist is responsible for library service,
including formal library/information competency instruction as
                  well as helping students and faculty incorporate
electronic resources into their learning and teaching
                  activities. Library service will account for fifty
percent of the assignment; servicing as the Instructional
                  Resource Specialist accounts for the other 50% of this
assignment. Duties will include: serving as a
                  member of the library faculty, assuming public service
reference duties; consulting with colleagues on
                  acquisition, selection and deselection of library
materials and overall library planning; developing and
                  teaching formal Library Instruction/Information
competency classes; designing user guides and other
                  instructional materials. Support faculty by:
identifying and utilizing electronic media, including the use of the
                  Internet; serving as a resource for faculty developing
distance education courses; expanding the use of the
                  campus Website as an instructional resource for faculty
and students; teaching in-service classes for
                  faculty and staff on the use and application of
technology in the classroom; monitoring and evaluating new
                  technologies.

                  QUALIFICATIONS

                  The District seeks candidates exhibiting a sensitivity
and understanding of the diverse academic, social,
                  economic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds
of community college students.

                  Desired Qualifications: Training and/or experience in
instructional technology; successful reference
                  experience; strong commitment to public service;
enthusiasm for learning new ways for accessing and
                  sharing information; demonstrated written and oral
communications skills; demonstrated knowledge of the
                  Internet; demonstrated knowledge of multi-media
presentation software; successful classroom teaching
                  experience; ability to work effectively with students,
faculty, and staff; awareness of the philosophy and
                  objectives of the community college.

                  EDUCATION

                  Master's in library science, library and information
science

                                                       OR

                  The equivalent. Candidates not possessing the minimum
qualifications as stated above, must complete the
                  supplemental questionnaire and explain in detail how
their qualifications are equivalent to those above

                                                       OR

                  Credential: Possession of an appropriate California
Community College credential..

                  All course work must be from a regionally accredited
college or university.

                  SALARY AND EXPERIENCE

                  Salary is commensurate with academic preparation and
experience in placement on the District salary
                  schedule. Fringe benefits include medical, dental,
life, and vision insurance plans. Maximum credit for prior
                  experience is 7 years. Contract is based on a 10-month
year to begin with the Fall semester, 1999.

                  Equivalency is defined as:

                       1. Completion (or expected completion prior to
effective date of employment) of a particular degree
                       without possession of the degree;

                       2. Completion of appropriate course work for a
degree related to the identified degrees listed on the
                       announcement;

                       3. Demonstrated expertise and command of the
subject, related general education or appropriate
                       writing skill;

                       4. Eminence or recognized achievement or
excellence in the field or occupation.
