University of California, Santa Cruz

LEARNING CENTER COORDINATOR/LEARNING SKILLS SPECIALIST
EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY PROGRAMS
PROFESSIONAL & SUPPORT STAFF PROGRAM GRADE K

JOB # 99-04-14

FULL TIME/CAREER
variable schedule including evenings and weekends, discussed at interview

MINIMUM STARTING SALARY: $41,900/annually

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Under the general direction of the Director of the
Educational Opportunity Programs (EOP), the incumbent will
be responsible for the development, implementation, and coordination of
learning assistance programs for educationally disadvantaged,
low-income, and first generation college bound students.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Program Coordination: responsible for
day-to-day operations; develop and coordinate
academic report programs; collaborate to develop, and participate in
special programs including Summer Bridge, Fall Orientation, and other
workshops/programs; coordinate tutorial support; assist with the
development and maintenance of writing programs; troubleshoot facility
concerns and other identified problems/issues. Management and
Administration: select, train, supervise, and evaluate staff; oversee the
hiring, supervision, training and evaluation of student staff; conduct
staff performance appraisals and merit reviews; establish regulations and
policies; administer and monitor budget; develop budget plans, projections
and reports; monitor and approve expenditures. Program
Planning and Development: develop short and long-range goals and
objectives; conduct ongoing research, prepare summaries and
recommendations; conduct needs assessments and make recommendations for new
programs and services; develop and disseminate
brochures, pamphlets, and other materials. Learning Skills Development and
Assessment: oversee and participate in the development of
programs and workshops; conduct learning skills assessments and diagnosis.
Program Evaluation, Analysis and Report Writing: develop
and implement systematic methods for data collection; conduct yearly
assessments of student needs; review and analyze participant
utilization data and tutorial service evaluations; prepare and submit
monthly and annual reports.

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE (with or without accommodation): demonstrated
experience in developing and implementing college level
student academic support programs for educationally disadvantaged,
low-income, first generation college bound, students with disabilities,
and multicultural, diverse student populations or related experience;
extensive experience in programs related to higher education; experience
supervising and developing professional staff; experience with and
sensitivity to multicultural and racially diverse student populations as
well as educationally disadvantaged, low-income, first generation college
bound, and students with disabilities; demonstrated experience
managing and monitoring budgets, and developing budget spending plans;
experience and skill in the use of computers for word processing,
database management, and report writing; experience and knowledge in
training tutorial staff, designing and implementing study skills and
other academic support programs; demonstrated experience in conducting
study skills classes, workshops and/or groups; knowledge of and
experience in program evaluation, including needs assessment; excellent
organizational and creative problem-solving skills; excellent
interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as a member of a team
in collaboration with others, and to work independently in a
decentralized campus environment; demonstrated writing skills sufficient to
prepare administrative correspondence, write reports and
program evaluation results; excellent public speaking skills sufficient to
conduct workshops and make presentations to large and small
groups. The abilities to: develop and disseminate policies and procedures
to ensure effective learning assistance programs and activities;
collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data and formulate
programmatic recommendations based on the data.
