Best wishes to all............... Dennis -------------------------------------------------------- REGIONAL SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION TRAINING July 12, 13, 14, 2000 North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a successful, cost effective, retention program that focuses on high attrition courses, not high-risk students. A high attrition course is one where 30% or more of enrollees typically earn grades of D, F, or withdraw. SI helps students acquire and refine the specific study skills indispensable to learning the subject matter in high-attrition courses. Students who participate in SI commonly average 1 let-ter grade higher on final grades, they have more grades of ABC and fewer grades of DFW. About 10% more of SI participants persist until graduation over comparable non-SI participants. The U. S. Department of Edu-cation recognizes SI as a successful retention program.
