The 17th annual Learning Assistance Association of New England (LAANE)
Conference, "Interacting Voices: Many Faces Within Developmental Education,"
will be held at Burling Campus of Northeastern University in Burlington,
Massachusetts on Friday, October 27, 2000.

LAANE supports educators involved in meeting the academic and nonacademic
needs of under-prepared, at-risk, and nontraditional students who aspire to
make a change in their lives through postsecondary education.  The
Association also provides the developmental educators in New England with
networking opportunities and advancement in professional development

Keynote speaker for the conference, Linda Thompson, is the current President
of the National Association for Developmental Education (NADE).
Additionally, she is Director of Student Support Services and Associate
Professor of Psychology at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas.

Thompson is the editor of the Journal of the Arkansas Association for
Developmental Education and is a past president of ArkADE.  She is also a
graduate of the Kellogg Institute where she received certification as a
Developmental Education Specialist.  She conceived, proposed and implemented
the developmental course program and the learning center on her campus.
