At Inver Hills Community College in Inver Grove Heights,MN, we use peer tutors. The peer tutors are paid $7 per hour. We likewise were losing tutors to the "outside" where they could get paid more. As of this fall, any returning tutors or those who have completed 200 hours of tutoring are receiving $8 per hour. All of our tutors who wish to be paid must carry six credits per semester and must fill out the FAFSA form to determine their eligibility. If the tutors do not qualify for workstudy funds, our dean has made money available for peer tutoring. We are the only place on campus where a student can work and get paid if you do not qualify for financial aid. We have used professionals and retired instructors from the community in the past; however, we have no funding available so they volunteer their time.
