This is a Rare Bird Update for the Northwest Florida/ South Alabama for the
week of Nov. 15, 2000 This hotline is sponsored by the Francis M. Weston

OCTOBER 27-  Friday- Fort Walton Beach, Fl., Spray Fields

At the  Ft. Walton Beach landfill and sewage plant
today, from 8:30 to 3:00, and found ninety-nine (99) species. High count
due to early ducks (8 sps) and sparrows (9 sps) overlapping late shore
birds (10 sps) and passarine migrants, including 16 warbler species.

Highlights:  EARED GREBE (city sewage plant pond), BLACK RAIL (in landfill
snipe field), VERMILLION FLYCATCHER (south boundary fence, city plant),
ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER (east boundary fence, city plant), BLACKBURNIAN
WARBLER and WILSON'S WARBLER (entrance road of county plant, near cattle
loading pen), NELSON'S SHARPTAILED SPARROW (long grass at east end of
sprayfield of city plant), HENSLOW'S SPARROW and GRASSHOPPER SPARROW (near
north end of vagrant lane, landfill).

Full warbler list:  TENNESSEE, ORANGE-CROWNED, N. PARULA, YELLOW,
CHESTNUT-SIDED, MAGNOLIA, YELLOW-RUMPED, BLACK-THROATED GREEN,
BLACKBURNIAN, PINE, PRAIRIE, PALM, AM. REDSTART, N. WATERTHRUSH, WILSON'S

NOVEMBER 3- Friday- Fort Walton Beach Spray Fields

FWB Dump Sparrow Trail -SCISSORTAILED-FLYCATCHER, ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER,
WHITE CROWNED SPARROWS (juv), others.

       Crown Point Resort Ponds-GADWALL, COMMON MOORHEN, LEAST BITTERN
Bridge Area - GADWALL, HERRING GULLS (juv.) GREEN-WINGED TEAL, NELSON'S
SHARP-TAILED SPARROWS (H. J. (Hud) Huddleston and Charles Parkel)

NOVEMBER 4-5- Saturday and Sunday  -Gulf Shores, Ft. Morgan and Dauphin
Island, Al.

FRANKLIN'S GULL, 11/4, two at Ft. Gaines jetties on Dauphin Island and one
each at beach out from Lagoon Pass (west of Gulf Shores) and beach near Gulf
State Park Lodge (I believe all four birds were mixed in with Laughers)
WHITE-WINGED DOVE, 11/4, three with many Eurasian Collared at tennis court in
front of Gulf State Park lodge
PEREGRINE FALCON, 11/4, two at Ft. Morgan soaring and calling with Cooper's
Hawk
MAGNOLIA WARBLER, 11/5, stable woods at Ft. Morgan (Steve McConnell)

NOVEMBER 9- Thursday-FWB Spray Fields

EARED GREBE seen at the city pond, and HORNED GREBE at the county pond: 12
species of ducks at the dump ponds.  NORTHERN HERRIER (male) over the spray
fields.  3 SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHERS along the fences around the spray
fields.

NOVEMBER 10- Friday- Pace, Fl and Hurlbert AFB, Fl

 White Pelicans (@40 birds) over Hulbert Field (Eglin) in
Early November and over Pace (Escambia Delta area) (@30 birds) ( Ed Lowsma)

Ft. Walton Beach Spray fields-
2 EARED GREBE in the Mama Rosa Ponds.:also AM. AVOCET there.  2 VERMILLON
FLYCATCHERS -adult male at the end of the road before going into the Mama
Rosa ponds: juv. behind the office building of the FWB dump.-11 species of
duck including CANVASBACK: ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER and LECONTE SPARROW on
Vagrant Lane inside of the dump.:  3 BALD EAGLES, 2 PEREGRINE FALCONS above

NOVEMBER 13- Monday- East Bay, Pensacola , Fl

  50   LESSER SCAUPin East Bay.  LEAST BITTERN in Catfish
