THE CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAM
Faculty of Information Studies,
University of Toronto presents a one day workshop

ISO STANDARDS AND RECORDS MANAGEMENT -
WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL?
Instructor: Christine Ardern

In the 1990's the International Standards Organization (ISO) introduced the
ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 series of standards, dealing with manufacturing
and quality standards and environmental standards. Both standards
require organizations to maintain effective and reliable records, in order
to
be certified. But how do organizations know if their records meet the
record keeping requirements?

ISO has recently produced a record keeping standard, together with a
technical report, which will complement other ISO standards and which will
be the basis for Canadian record keeping standards, not only in business
but also in Government. What does this new standard look like? What
does it deal with? How can it be applied in your organization? This
workshop will discuss the background and development of the standard,
evaluate each section's content and its implications to business and
government and develop a strategy on how to apply/adapt it to meet the
regulatory and business needs.

TARGET AUDIENCE
Individuals responsible for setting policies, standards and guidelines for
information management within organizations including records managers,
archivists, special librarians, knowledge management professionals,
database managers, business administrators and individuals within
organizations who are responsible for the oversight of recordkeeping
practices.
