Here are a couple of requirements on the federal level.  First is 26 CFR
1.3001-1 (a-e).  Retention timeframes range from 2 yrs to 4 yrs.

The second is 29 CFR 516.  Timeframes for this section are generally 2-3
years.

Specific state requirements may be longer.

Other federal and state statutes and regulations do apply.

Does anyone know (without having to search the CFR's) if there is a federal
retention requirement for employee earning records?  Our definition of an
employees earning record is a record that shows: gross pay, deductions, net
pay.  This particular record does not contains hours worked, hourly rate,
vacation or sick leave taken or any other details.
