S.P., Chris and FLORIDABIRDers,

Major events have occurred at Zellwood since Bill Pranty's
"A Birder's Guide to Forida" was published in 1996. Things
are not at all the same!!!!!

Most of the privately owned farmlands were sold to the state

and the greater part of the area is now managed by St. Johns

River Water Mgt. District. Joy Marburger of St. Johns River
Water Mgt. Dist. conducts monthly bird surveys on the first
Saturday of each month. Birders are encouraged to
participate in these surveys. Joy's e-mail address is:

During winter and spring 2001, western flycatchers and
kingbirds were seen regularly at the entrance gates on Lust
Rd. and Hooper Farms Rd. Although the gates are locked and
casual entry is prohibited, birders were able to see these
species because frequently the birds were within binocular
and/or telescope distance.

Best Wishes,
Dot Freeman, Orlando
